Fine Folks Presents: Los Angeles Under Construction #2
Beverly Hills, 1960.
A new “modern” neighborhood in Beverly Hills, just as it was becoming the type of place we know it as today. It had already been sort of a movie star area since the 1920’s, but it was still pretty rural, with a bunch of open land and dirt roads, horses only being outlawed in 1930.
Throughout the 1920’s, The City of Los Angeles tried to annex the area, but the celebrities living there used their clout to maintain their independent city-ship, and it still is.
This photo is likely of the Trousdale Estate, an area now known as the home of many celebrities, which was purchased by Paul Trousdale in the late 1950’s, and developed from stables and trails into a swanky coolville.
